通過美國食品藥物管理局(FDA)兩項胚胎幹細胞臨床試驗的先進生物科技公司(advance cell techology),日前發表最新的幹細胞專利技術--單胚芽細胞技術(single-blastmere technology),此技術為不需破壞胚胎就可取得胚胎幹細胞.
先進生物科技公司在2010年11月22日率先通過FDA核准,利用胚胎幹細胞治療眼底黃斑變性症(Stargardt's Macular Degeneration);2011年1月3日又再次獲得批准,進行乾性老年黃斑變性症(Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration)的臨床試驗.目前擁有超過150項關於幹細胞治療和再生醫學的專利和相關證照.
單胚芽細胞技術類似體外受精的技術,且不會干擾胚胎發育的過程,並達到歐洲藥物管理局(European Medicines Agency)和FDA規範的標準.這項專利技術已發表在自然(Nature)和細胞之幹細胞(Cell Stem Cell)期刊中.
先進生物科技公司將這項專利技術運用在通過FDA審核的兩件臨床試驗中,希望藉此可以幫助更多需要幹細胞治療的病患.
Advanced Cell receives patent for embryonic stem cell technology

Regenerative medicine company Advanced Cell Technology (OTCBB: ACTC) said that it has been issued a patent for its "single-blastomere" technology, a way to derive human embryonic stem cells without destroying embryos.
"Of the more than 150 patents and patent applications related to stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine that ACT owns or licenses, this patent on our single-blastomere technology is one of the most significant," said interim chairman and CEO Gary Rabin.
"It will help us accelerate our progress on a number of fronts, including deriving embryonic stem cells which meet the regulatory standards of the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration, using the single-blastomere technology."
The single-blastomere technology uses an approach similar to one used in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process, and does not interfere with an embryo's developmental potential.
Advanced Cell's technology has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature and Cell Stem Cell. The company has used its technique to make waves in the medical community, recently receiving approval from the FDA to proceed with two trials to test its stem cell therapy for the treatment of degenerative eye diseases.
According to the company's chief scientific officer, Robert Lanza, more than 100 people die every hour from diseases that could potentially benefit from its stem cell technology in the US alone.
